As a member of the LCF High Performance Computing (HPC) team, appointee will participate in the technical operation, support and continued development of the first class HPC facilities of the LCF division and laboratory in order to enhance the productivity of the scientific staff and research colleagues of the division. With the LCF technical staff and colleagues at other labs and universities, assists with the coordination of similar systems. Special emphasis of this position is to lead efforts in building and maintaining the LCF HPC systems and clusters, creating technical documentation for end-users and internal use, and providing technical support to the users of the HPC resources.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Comprehensive
Comprehensive problem solving skills. Comprehensive knowledge and expertise in UNIX systems administration, with emphasis on Linux. Comprehensive knowledge of systems administration tools and languages, such as Perl, Python, C, PHP and shell scripts. Comprehensive expertise in installation, configuration, and management of large numbers of computers. Comprehensive expertise in installation, management and use of software such as compilers, scientific applications and job resource managers. Comprehensive knowledge and expertise in technologies such as TCP/IP and related protocols; networked file systems, including NFS

Considerable
Considerable ability to work effectively as a member of a team. Considerable ability to communicate well with people of diverse backgrounds and computer knowledge. Considerable flexibility in dealing with assignments and in working on several projects simultaneously, often with frequent interruptions. Considerable ability to complete tasks with minimal direct supervision. Considerable knowledge of and expertise in Internet resources, facilities, activities and techniques.

Good
Good knowledge of and expertise in the installation, configuration, management, and use of high performance computers such as clusters of Linux boxes, large SMPs and hybrids Good knowledge of parallel and cluster filesystems such as PVFS, Lustre, GPFS and GFS, high performance networking technologies such as Myrinet and Infiniband, and use of MPI implementations such as MPICH and LAMS. Good familiarity with the hardware and software of mass storage systems.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 4+ years work experience or equivalent; some occupations may require a graduate degree and 2+ years work experience or equivalent
