Contribute to the success of the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation providing human resources advice and guidance to the leadership, faculty and staff. Direct, lead and oversee all Human Resource functions within the following key areas of responsibility: HR Transactions and Maintenance of Employee Information; Consultation; Compliances with Policies, Laws, and Regulations; Compensation; Talent Acquisition and Onboarding; Strategic Planning Program Development Implementation; Reward and Recognition; Performance Management; Leave Management; Communication; Human Resources and Financial Management.

Monitor and approve all HR workflow transactions for the Department of Orthopaedics. Serve as the Department's workflow administrator.

Responsible for faculty HR transactions and maintenance of employee information.

Manage immigration processes including preparation of visa applications, collection of data, counseling of faculty and preparation of reports.

Direct processes for credentialing, recredentialing and billing privileges for mid-level providers and faculty.

Direct and coordinate the Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation process.

Coordinate faculty affairs and prepare all reports regarding faculty career review and promotion; guide and perform promotion committee work for faculty required by the Provost.

Serve as a liaison with the College of Medicine regarding faculty affairs and development.

Independently exercise judgment; lead/conduct all investigatory matters; mediate and develop resolutions for employee complaints; serve as the primary representative on behalf of the Department for grievances and arbitrations; coach/train/educate/develop managers/supervisors/directors and Ortho leadership regarding personnel matters and performance issues.

Develop and implement Departmental HR policies, procedures, and practices.

Coordinate, maintain and monitor payroll activities within the Department of Orthopaedics requiring independent decision making and judgment while assuring consistency in the application of policies and procedures.

Develop Departmental recruitment strategies; oversee hiring processes/practices within the Department including applicant evaluation/selection and employment law/legal issues. Determine appropriate position classifications and approve all Ortho recruitment efforts.

Ensure compliance requirements are met by organizing programs to support compliance activities (departmental training) while documenting efforts and/or outcomes. Maintain in-depth knowledge/understanding specific to all relevant mandatory requirements.

Advise various managers/supervisors/directors as well as Orthopaedics administration on the use of performance management tools and corrective and disciplinary action plans (including but not limited to the preparation, administration and follow-up of implemented documentation). Recommend necessary next steps and outcomes for performance issues.

Oversee all leave requests (paid and unpaid) within the Department of Orthopaedics including ADA, FMLA and Worker's Comp. Advise leaders on best practices, and respond to inquiries regarding policies/procedures.

Perform independent research of a confidential nature related to non-routine personnel issues; compile and analyze data; create spreadsheets and reports; follow-up with staff as appropriate; provide recommendations.

Education Required:
A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Experience Required:
3-5 years of human resources experience is required.

Previous experience managing end-to-end HR functions including: payroll, benefits, recruiting, and compensation required.

Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer established employment policies, procedures and protocols (state, federal and otherwise) while making sound, independent decisions.

Previous Employee Relations and Performance Management experience. Ability to identify issues/problems and provide positive solutions/outcomes required.

Excellent written and oral skills are required.

Excellent working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access and Excel.

A working knowledge of State and Federal regulations affecting human resources is required.

Desirable Qualifications:
Highly Desirable:

Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field.

Previous experience in an academic medical setting or hospital strongly desired.


Previous experience working with collective bargaining units desired.

SPHR or PHR certification desired.

Some knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations is desired.
