The Human Resources Generalist manages the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource office. The HR Generalist manages the administration of the human resources policies, procedures and programs. The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: departmental development, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, organizational development, DOT drug testing program, worker’s compensation, and leave of absences.
The Human Resources generalist is responsible for all or part of these areas:
performance management and improvement systems;
employment and compliance to regulatory concerns and reporting
employee orientation, development, and training
assists in policy development and documentation
company employee communication
compensation and assists with benefits administration
employee safety, welfare, wellness and health; and
employee services and counseling
Participates in payroll processing to include review of hours worked, ensures appropriate approvals and pulls the payroll file for a limited group within the company and submits the files to payroll for processing
Assists with the onboarding process – including pre-employment drug screens, and pre-employment background checks
Completes any payroll related changes for employee’s paychecks and submits to the payroll department in an efficient and timely manner
Administers workers compensation program
Administers the leave of absence program, including FMLA, non-FMLA, and personal leaves
Administers and maintains the FAA DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program to meet federal compliance, to include document verification
Assists, along with the other members of the HR team, in maintaining the Human Resource Information System records – this may include, but not limited to, processing salary changes, job title changes, terminations, etc.
Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment
Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned
The Human Resources Generalist originates and leads Human Resources practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, and goal attainment.
The Human Resources Generalist coordinates implementation of services, policies, and programs through Human Resources staff; reports to the Human Resources Director, and assists and advises company managers about Human Resources issues.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Business Management, or Human Resources is required plus a minimum of 5 years experience as an HR Generalist for a multi-state organization. Prior DOT drug & alcohol administration experience is a plus.
