Job Description:
  • Background
This position was created in response to client
requests to support the process safety management
tools and processes for projects underway. The
Process Safety Engineer position will serve to lead
process safety activities, assure the use of
appropriate tools, and document and track completion
of process safety elements noted in the course of
the engineering review process. The following
details the roles, responsibilities, activities and

tasks to be of the Process Safety Engineer position:
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement WorleyParsons’ HAZOP
procedures for client projects
  • Determine project scope impacts into the
operating facility and process scheme
  • Identify specific (process safety –related)
procedures apply to the project scope:
  • AKBP procedures
  • BPXA Operational (HSSE, OMS) policies, and
procedures for North Slope Operations
  • ExxonMobil Procedures
  • Determine applicability of the project spec
register to the project scope – including
requirements exempted, if any.
  • Develop expert understanding of BP and
WorleyParsons corporate requirements – ETPs,
STPs, WorleyParsons EMS, etc., in order to
verbalize requirements/specs are the best fit
for executing the project
  • Build a risk based management program that
identifies elements such as safety critical
equipment, maintenance plans, corrosion
mitigation and emergency response plans;
  • Contribute to the development of (or revisions
to) the process/ operational procedures,
emergency response measures, etc., subsequent to
the execution of the project.
  • Engage with the project execution’s day to day
activities (like attending review meetings) and
yet knowledgeable/independent enough to
challenge the system, and guide/coach the
project leads on both sides;
  • Define/understand process safety metrics for
the relevant process area – and understand the
impact of the project on these metrics.

  • Oversee and review project portfolio Design
Hazard Management Plans, Case for Safety and
Technical Assurance Plans at each project stage
  • Utilize design, maintenance, and operational
data to systematically evaluate major risks and
hazards
  • Participate and add value (from a process
safety perspective) to formal design reviews
that require HSSE and IM assurance –HAZIDs,
HAZOPs, LOPAs, PHSSERs, CHAZOP, model reviews,
constructability reviews, and PSSR
  • Participate in project start-up/hand-over;
  • Participate in the population of the
hazardregisters, with process safety
hazardsrelevant to the project, and support
projects with closure of recommendations to
mitigate hazards;
  • Understand the deliverables, interface
requirements among the multiple contractors,
vendors and BP culminating into an executed
project. Be able to identify potential gaps
between SoR/BoD intent and the final product;
and assist the project leads with minimizing the
gaps;
  • Manage and track changes to project scope
formal and informal;
  • Provide training to the project team regarding
BP’s process safety requirements, their
application and potential impacts to their work
  • Monitor and track and report Project integrity
issues are understood and are being actively
managed;
  • Produce, evaluate and submit performance metric
reports on a monthly basis (KPIs), and adjust
procedural requirements and workflows as
necessary for continuous improvements

  • Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis
(FMEA/FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Formal Safety Assessment – FEHA, NFHA, EERA,
TRIA, ESSA, SGIA
  • Reliability, Availability and Maintainability
(RAM) Study
  • Occupied Building Assessment
  • Loss Prevention (Safety in Design, Hazardous
Area Classification, Equipment Layout Review,
Fire and Gas Layout Review, C&E Review,
Firewater Systems)
  • SIMOPs
Job Requirements:
  • BA/BS in related field or applicable discipline
preferred, or equivalent years experience. Thorough
knowledge of applicable theories, practices, and
accepted procedures. Generally 7-10 years of
experience.
  • Possesses and is recognized as having a specialized
depth or breadth of expertise within the department.
Interprets internal and external business challenges
with impact on the organization and recommends best
practice solutions. Contributes to implementation
plan development and program coordination.
  • Advanced proficiency with applicable software
applications in related field. Advanced analytical
and problem solving skills. Accuracy and attention
to detail critical. Ability to meet deadlines and
manage priorities is critical. Strong written and
verbal communication skills in English are essential
to effectively teach what they know to other
employees. Ability to transfer subject matter
expertise and understanding to other employees
and/or internal customers is required regarding why
work is performed the way it is and how it impacts
the broader organization. Strong ability to persuade
and influence others.
  • Commitment to customer service and ability to lead
functional project teams is important. Ability to
maintain confidential information is critical.
  • Generally characterized as a "Senior Contributor"
with ability to lead functional project teams within
a business unit or department. E4Very rarely
requires supervision and direction beyond providing
desired outcomes.
  • Typically will regularly interface with
departmental staff and middle and upper management,
and frequently with outside customers.
