The University of Florida (UF) Department of Epidemiology seeks a diligent, detail-oriented individual to function as study Navigator. The Navigator will build relationships with community members, and act as liaison between community members and University of Florida study investigators. He/she will develop and manage a system that ensures community members have access to the most up-to-date research opportunities available. After the Navigator refers community members to their study of choice, they follow-up with both the coordinator and community member to ensure satisfaction with the process as well as to track enrollment. The Navigator will be responsible for maintenance of records of community participants and a database of research studies. The Navigator will also connect residents with needed medical and social services based on their individual needs and wants.
Proactively links community members with relevant research protocols. Provides follow-up with participants by phone or in person regarding study enrollment and satisfaction. Contacts study coordinators to provide referrals to other studies and to track participant enrollment.
Performs outreach to inform community members, in culturally appropriate ways, about research opportunities are the University.
Engages community residents in HealthStreet by conducting health intakes, and linking them to other studies throughout the University.
Serves as an advocate for participants and the community towards improving the public health.
Maintains proper documentation and recordkeeping.
Attends community events and visits local businesses and agencies. Assists in building partnerships with community agencies.
Attends weekly team meetings to review progress.
Other duties as assigned
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Applicants should live in and be familiar with the greater Gainesville region. Should be punctual, outgoing, communicate effectively (verbally and in writing), be committed to participant protection and privacy, and have high personal integrity.

Expected to work additional hours which will include one Saturday per month, and may include extended weekday/weekend or evening hours as required for special events.
