This is a critical leadership role that provides solution and design oversight to the development, implementation, testing and integration of Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) subsystems into HPs fleet of Laser and Inkjet AiO/MFP products. Candidate is able to demonstrate proficiency ranging from hardware architecture, component design, system engineering and program management and lead these activities working with a team of internal and external partners. In conjunction with development partners, conducts feasibility, design margin and validation analysis and empirical testing on new and modified designs. The engineer will work closely with engineers of varied disciplines (systems, firmware, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing) to successfully lead a project into production.
Able to work in a dynamic development environment ranging from leading a design team on a new product architecture, to working with an outside design firm to stretch an existing architecture into new products.
Paper handling design experience is desired, preferably in image capture applications. Applicants should have 5+ years of experience with ADF architecture, mechanical and system design, design troubleshooting and taking designs from concept to production.
Experience in doing a guided design where the fundamental architecture is internally developed with the actual design work is done by external third party design teams.
Lead the development and delivery of paper handling devices to high performance All-in-One Ink (AIO) and Laser All-in-One, and Multifunction Laser Products (MFPs).
Work with Geographically diverse internal and external design resources
Design of experiments/test procedures to validate both statistically and empirically the paper handling capability of paper handling devices
Solid understanding of manufacturing and design trade-offs between low cost/high volume and low volume/high value systems.
Expert Level: Leads multiple project teams of other mechanical hardware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners responsible for all stages of mechanical and thermal development for complex products and platforms, including solution design, validation, tooling and testing.
Manages and expands relationships with internal and outsourced development partners on electro-mechanical, paper handling, and acoustic design and development.
Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with technology and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality.
Provides domain-specific expertise and overall mechanical/thermal/acoustic leadership and perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities
Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Minimum 5 years of ADF design experience including: paper path design, testing and verification, dynamic mechanism design, DC motors and servo control, power transmission, ID integration
Cross disciplinary technical skills: working with diverse engineering fields including FW, EE, systems, mechanical and manufacturing, to develop and integrate scanning ADF systems. Ability to identify and manage the seams between disciplines and subsystems, identifying the design goals and constraints early and providing a high confidence development path.
Supply Chain: working with operational and procurement organizations on supplier evaluation, specification alignment, factory test tool implementation (CIMation). Help evaluate and drive appropriate development model decisions for subsystems and key components.
Demonstrated project management experience: leading technical teams, plan development cycle and drive checkpoint deliverables, understand marketing and customer needs and translate those into a successful product.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at senior management levels.
Using Pro Engineer, and/or One Space CAD software as a mechanical design tool.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Experience in mechanical, acoustic and thermal architecture of electro-mechanical paper handling design.
Design sheet metal and plastic parts and associated production tooling and processes
Worst case designs ranging from the components to the complete system, validating that the solution will function with high confidence despite variations in the system.
