The Head Coach is to provide leadership for the intercollegiate program; to administer and promote the program within the University mission. Evening and weekend hours in addition to travel for recruiting, scouting, evaluating as well as team contests is expected. Preparation of training/practice sessions, pregame organization, scouting reports, team travel arrangements, monitoring student-athlete academic performance, recruiting, professional communication in regards to the coaching staff and individual players.
Bachelor's degree plus two years experience competing and/or coaching at the collegiate level or equivalent combination of education and experience. Collegiate level playing and/or coaching experience preferred with a commitment to Division III philosophy and experience with NCAA.
Ability to objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability for intercollegiate athletics. Working knowledge of NCAA DIII tennis rules of and the ability to teach critical skills, regulations, and competitive strategies and training techniques. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of the University, the conference and the NCAA. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College including, but not limited to, student- athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, athletic training staff, and athletic department staff. Ability to provide effective leadership to student athletes to encourage both successful academic development and competitive performance. Knowledge of Tennis. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel with team to scheduled events.
Evening and weekend hours in all types of weather are kept, with travel from both campuses necessary. As there is some lifting (ie., set-up of scorers table, etc.), some manual labor is expected. Because of the location of athletic facilities on each campus, organizing and some transportation between campuses is expected.
Provide leadership for the team; establish coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student-athletes' skills and teamwork; analyze team performance and adjust strategies as needed. Oversee recruitment of student athletes. Develop policies and procedures for student-athletes (and assistant coaches). Develop strategies to foster athletic and academic progress of student-athletes. May perform marketing or public relations duties to promote the program. Perform related duties as assigned. Represent the Stevenson University Athletic Department in professional, civic, charity and alumni events. Responsibilities include development, and administration of all phases of the program including recruitment, training, practice, competition, scheduling, and adherence to NCAA regulations. College/ University level playing and/or coaching experience and commitment to Division III philosophy preferred. Must have current training in First aid and CPR/AED or have scheduled date for re-certification.
