Common Sense Media is the leading independent, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of kids and families by providing the information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in a world of media and technology. We are growing and attracting national media attention on almost a daily basis. Simply put, if you don’t send us your CV you’ll kick yourself! Currently we are seeking a talented, experienced policy professional with a keen sense of strategy, who knows the Hill like the back of their hand and can get major DC players to listen and act. This position is Washington DC based and, for the perfect candidate, we will consider relocation reimbursement.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
To succeed in this high profile role – you must be an inspired leader with laser focus coupled with real life understanding of current policy issues and opportunities. In the first six months you will help execute to an integrated plan that moves Common Sense Media’s mission forward. You will be in a visible DC arena working with high profile players on issues like privacy and digital education. It’s exciting work – you’ll be a respected leader building and improving digital literacy and digital citizenship education programs in schools and community programs as well as a new national privacy strategy. Sum impact - children will learn to navigate the digital media world in a safe, ethical way and parents will have improved access to tools and information to help manage the ever changing media diet that kids consume. There will be hurdles – our mission is one that has opponents – you’ll overcome them.

WHAT WE NEED TO SEE ON YOUR RESUME (REALLY)

You’ll be a thoughtful, innovative contributor in driving the Common Sense national policy & advocacy strategy and positioning. You have high level deep bipartisan DC contacts and you know the importance of building and maintaining relationships. You are an influencer by nature and can use that influence in executive and legislative branches and you’ve grown high level relationships with top political leaders with industry and advocates in Washington. You’ll be comfortable conducting outreach to various Learning/Educational Institutions. You’ve earned a MA or similar degree in government or related areas and you can show us a proven track record of success advancing legislation and policy issues. You must be able to lead and manage change, tackle complex and challenging problems and work with a diverse array of partners.

Highly creative and able to develop new advocacy strategies and tactics, you’re adaptable and will flourish in fast‐paced work environment. You work independently and managing multiple projects is second nature. You work easily in a team-driven environment, coordinating efforts of multiple colleagues. You’re highly intelligent, you have great verbal and written communications skills – you have the drive (grace and true grit) to get things done. You don’t mind the odd jaunt to San Francisco or beyond! You have an authentic interest in the well-being of children in our 24/7 media world.
