SUMMARY

Reporting to the Head of Online, the Head of Digital Products is responsible for managing a team to implement Al Jazeera America°s digital strategy, including all digital platforms and services.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional project management, communication, and leadership skills. Additionally, this role will require in depth technical knowledge, and the ability to effectively work with the editorial staff to capture and meet business requirements for product lines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Participate in shaping and executing Al Jazeera New Media Digital Strategy on all levels.
  • Responsible for the execution of the digital strategy for the channel.
  • Work closely with the Engineering team on implementing digital products and roadmaps.
  • Participate in building and enhancing the products presence across the social media ecosystem and help in planning product launch campaigns.
  • Work closely with Marketing and Ad Sales to effectively position the online products as leaders in the market and help in driving revenue and monetization opportunities.
  • Work closely with the editorial team and Head of Online to prepare success metrics and gauge performance via analytics.
  • Work closely with the programming and editorial teams to develop compelling new cross-platform (TV/digital) offerings.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Periodic review of product managers ’ workflows and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in yearly budget procedures.
  • Work closely with HR to prepare job descriptions and conduct interviews with potential candidates.
EDUCATION
  • BA/BS required; MA/MS or equivalent industry experience preferred; MBA or advanced technical degree a plus.

EXPERIENCE
  • 6-9 years ’ experience in digital Product Management roles of increasing responsibility, preferably in the media industry.

  • Experience managing online products powering distribution platforms and online communities.
  • Previous experience managing Product Managers, Project Managers, UI Designers and/or Web Developers
  • Experience managing online products via metrics, using data and research to build and optimize compelling user experiences
