Illumina is at the heart of the genome revolution, partnering and providing enabling technologies that not only drive new possibilities in healthcare but capture the imagination of the public, as demonstrated in mainstream consumer media coverage by the NBC Today Show and The Guardian, as well as news magazines and health resources. In 2012, Illumina created the Understand Your Genome (UYG) symposium with the mission to responsibly but urgently accelerate genomically-guided wellness and illness management through engagement with the medical community. UYG is unique in that participants engage in physician-mediated whole-genome sequencing, becoming part of a unique and important educational experience, and also experiencing th
e as well as the realization of holding one’s genome in their hand as to personalize something they will use in their daily professional and/or personal lives in the future.
This unique and exciting role as Head of Understand Your Genome Program will center on clinical whole-genome sequencing market development with a primary focus on UYG business strategy. This role will closely interface with the UYG Program Manager who is responsible for program operations management, brand control, event planning and execution, and marketing execution.
•UYG Program Lead: In partnership with strategic collaborators, internal staff and external support, this role will accountable for all aspects of the UYG program including but not limited to financials, planning, strategy, content/programming, thought leader development, curriculum, professional accreditations, possible new program formats, deliverables, post-event continued training networks and resources, and program partnerships with relevant industry players and groups.
•Business Plan and Market Development. Clinical whole-genome sequencing is being and increasingly will be deployed in many areas such as population-level studies, consumer genomics, as well as health and disease management. This role will be responsible for identifying and driving Illumina to address opportunities to expand trial and adoption of whole genome sequencing in the clinic. It is envisioned that UYG will be a focal point and test-bed for achieving these goals. Toward that end, the individual in this role will drive toward standardizing components of the UYG program as appropriate toward smooth deployment, while building in flexibility to ensure the program can meet the specific goals of targeted UYG events.
•Content Expansion. The demand for UYG programs is high, with an increasingly diverse set of interested parties. Under the leadership of this position, UYG will develop a suite of content and educational experiences that both (a) ensure a productive meeting experience and perpetual learning opportunity for participants, and (b) tie back to the central goal of driving trial and adoption of whole genome sequencing. Long-term, this role will also be responsible for coordinating with Illumina’s innovative Clinical Services Lab to assure that UYG is not limited to WGS if and when exploration of additional analyses (e.g. epigenetics, metagenomics, expression analysis or other) as clinical tools is appropriate.
•Partnership Evolution. Illumina will continue to partner with leaders in areas such as medicine, clinical genetics, health data management and health policy to align and advocate for the advancements in healthcare that genomics, including exploration and analysis of the whole genome, will bring. This role will be responsible for identifying and managing those partnerships to their greatest potential, including evolving UYG’s reach and impact, and driving new program development.
All listed tasks and responsibilities are deemed as essential functions to this position, however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional task and responsibilities.
