This position provides technical safety support and tactical oversight of refinery's health and safety programs. Ensures compliance with company safety policies and federal/state/local safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
Supports Occupational Health Nurse on case management of workers compensation and personal liability claims.

Administers industrial hygiene monitoring program in conjunction with contracted provider.

Provides input into maintenance, projects and turnaround planning to ensure integration of comprehensive safety plans. Advises operations and craft teams on safety issues in pre-job planning and hazard control such as lock out/tag out procedures. Set-ups medical facilities for contractors.

Develops, reviews and maintains refinery's health and safety related programs, policies and procedures. Interprets applicable federal/state/local laws, regulations, ordinances to ensure refinery's sustained compliance. Develops and delivers safety training.

Serves as role model and champion for safety and safety compliance. Facilitates and fosters safety culture through mentoring Operations and Maintenance personnel in techniques and procedures for elimination or control of unsafe conditions/acts/hazards.

Serves as co-chair of joint health and safety committee.

Coordinates incident/accident investigations. Tracks status and makes assignments. Serves as member of refinery's command staff during emergency.

Qualifications

Education:
Undergraduate degree in safety, industrial hygiene or related discipline.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred .

Experience:
Minimum of 5 years relevant safety experience in refining or petrochemical industry required
