Healthcare Service Coordinator Summary

Making a difference in someone else‟s life is not standard for most job descriptions, but it is the bedrock of our Healthcare Services Coordinator (HCSC) position. By utilizing your extraordinary program management, customer service, relationship building and administrative skills you will help coordinate medical related support services to patients and families served by MDA .

As the link between the Muscular Dystrophy Association, MDA families, support team members, vendors and other community based organizations the HSCS is the key to our unique services.

The HSCS coordinates the planning of programs including MDA summer camp, clinic(s), support groups and public health education seminars. This role will also assist local office staff in networking and fostering relationships with prospective corporate sponsors, community organizations and MDA families to encourage participation and support for MDA fundraising programs and events.


Be a first point of contact for patient families by attending hospital-affiliated clinics MDA offers, and be a liaison between families, medical staff and MDA local office staff.
Provide contact information regarding resources such as equipment funding, loan program and repairs/modifications for patient families; inform them of discounts with preferred vendors while maintaining strict confidentiality and following up with patient needs that arise during the clinic visits.
Lead community outreach activities to heighten awareness of any of the 43 neuromuscular diseases; coordinate events attended by MDA spokespeople and distribute achievement awards to honorees.
Assess needs of the community and develop support groups and services for patients, patient families and the community; represent local office on MDA’s online community, set up MDA chat groups, phone friends and participate in health education seminars and Individual Educational Programs (IEP).
Coordinate logistics for support groups and special events including arranging donations of the facility, catering and scheduling guest speakers and facilitators.
Generate electronic newsletters and distribute educational information to patients, patient families and sponsors regarding upcoming support group, fundraising and special events.
Organize and coordinate logistics of the annual summer camp program.
Recruit volunteer counselors for summer camp program, for a week, activity/program coordinators as well as volunteer medical staff and establish leadership and mentoring relationship with volunteers, training them to enforce safety and risk management policies and procedures during summer camp.
Register, maintain and update MDA Family files using internal database; generate purchase orders for equipment and supplies on behalf of MDA Families, coordinate with insurance companies to gather pertinent information needed for billing and process invoices.
Advise and assist in the development of an organization-wide fundraising strategy, plan and budget – including effective strategies for raising funds based on annual expenses.

Job Requirements

Healthcare Services Coordinator

Experience working in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work a demanding, primarily self-directed, flexible work schedule
Excellent verbal communication and public speaking skills
Strong organization, multi-tasking and time management skills
Demonstrates the highest level of personal and ethical standards
Working knowledge of computers and specialized internal databases
Effectively utilizes tools/resources to work efficiently
A valid state driver‟s license, a satisfactory driving record and reliable transportation
4 year college degree preferred
Bilingual skills a plus
