Responsibilities include assuring the physical and emotional well-being of assigned individuals. Implementation of clients' habilitation and training plans. Duties include assistance with personal care, home living, socialization, leisure and safety of individuals. Assistance and teaching daily living and other skills. Assistance in classroom and/other training areas. Transportation of clients to activities, classes and appointments. Shopping with and for individuals. Assistance in providing emergency treatment for seizures or accidents, etc. Housekeeping chores as specified. Record keeping and documentation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Be able to stoop, bend, walk, run short distances and climb stairs on a regular basis.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, staff and others.
Ability to maintain professional and even tempered demeanor and work relationships. Ability to learn behavior management and supportive counseling techniques.
Ability to communicate observations and recommendations effectively in written and verbal form.

PREFER: ONE (1) YEAR EXPERIENCE WORKING DIRECTLY WITH INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school or General Educational Development diploma; some work experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Required Training or Certification - As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
