Unit: Acute Unit ~ Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Shift: 1 ~ Day Shift 7:00 am – 3:00 pm

1 ~ Night Shift 11:00 pm - 7:00 am

Cherry Hospital, an accredited State Psychiatric Hospital, provides services to the chronically mentally ill population in the eastern region of North Carolina. We are currently recruiting for two permanent full-time Health Care Technician II positions to provide nursing care and therapeutic health care to patients in a psychiatric intensive care unit who are mentally and physically ill. The position will deal with the most acute and aggressive patients and will require more extensive training in order to handle the challenges presented to them within this unit. The primary focus of this position includes but is not limited to providing active programming and ensuring safety of our patients, which is driven by individual patients’ treatment plans.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

*Must have certification as a Nurse Aide I and be listed on the Division of Health Service Regulation Registry.
*Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
*Ability to perform physical tasks including CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute), CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and repetitive bending and lifting.
*Must be alert and able to observe and report conditions of patients.
*Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotions and psychosocial needs of the patient population served.
*Must demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide patient care appropriate tot the age of the patients served on the assigned unit
*Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
*Ability to utilize proper ergonomics during patient care
**As a condition for continued employment, must pass all required parts of CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute).
**As an essential function of this position, the shift/unit assigned is primary but you may be required to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, during inclement weather and overtime and be assigned to another shift/unit building based on the hospital needs.
**Additional preference for individuals who are able to communicate both in English and Spanish fluently.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High School or General Educational Development Diploma and two years of closely related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
***Must already have certification as a Nurse Aide I and be listed on the Division of Health Service Regulation Registry.
