Definitions has been providing personal training services in intimate, high quality gyms since 1983. The company owns and operates three facilities in New York City, located at 19 Union Square West, 133 East 58th Street, and 39 East 78th St. Definitions employs approximately 45 fitness professionals. Our trainers are high-achieving individuals who typically work with accomplished clientele such as senior management, entrepreneurs, artists, and celebrities.

- Each Definitions trainer is an exercise specialist whose primary responsibility is to design an individualized, goal-oriented training session for each client, based on his or her fitness objectives and capabilities
- Assess risk stratification, fitness goals, relative flexibility, and body composition. Training approach should be modified as progress and goals are met and reassessed
- Supervise exercises to have proper form and technique, constantly assisting and supervising clients on every aspect of their workout
- Motivate clients to work to his/her maximum and safe potential for the entire workout to produce results
- Provide physical and psychological assistance, and support and encourage clients to meet their fitness goals
- Each trainer has a responsibility to be a leader in the field of exercise prescription. Attendance of continuing education seminars in the field of fitness is required. Maintaining current principles and theories behind fitness, exercise, and basic rehabilitation techniques are a main component of our professional responsibility. NASM corrective exercise certifications must be maintained
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or in a related field and experience in the fitness industry. A Master’s Degree in a related field and at least one year of personal training is preferred
- Current CPR certification
- Potential trainers must have a NCCA accredited personal training certification, preferably the ACSM Health Fitness Specialist certification. Those who do not have a certification must attain the ACSM HFS within the first half year of employment. Definitions prepares all of its trainers for the certification exam with study materials and pays for the exam fees
- Only full-time positions with a long-term commitment
- All new trainers must go through a compensated 150 hour orientation and training program
