Responsible for ensuring that all patient records and loose documents are placed/scanned into the Electronic/Paper Patient Folder with the highest level of quality possible. He/she is also responsible for indexing all documents to the appropriate patient folder and ensuring that each document is assigned the appropriate document name. Also responsible for identifying and assigning deficient medial records to the appropriate medical staff. Collects information for and prepares birth certificates and death certificates. Processes release of information to patients, attorneys and third-party payers. Processes transcribed documents. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
High school graduate or the equivalent (GED).
Associate's degree in Medical Record Technology or equivalent education and experience in a medical record department preferred.
Registered Health Information Technician preferred.
Minimum of one year experience in a medical record department required.
Ability to deal tactfully and patiently with medical staff and other regular contacts.
Ability to use word-processing equipment.
Knowledge of Windows 95 and Microsoft Word preferred.
Good visual acuity.
Speed and accuracy when working under pressure.
Clear and concise communication skills.
Must be able to pay close attention to detail in a position where the work is repetitive at times, yet the pace may be rapid with many interruptions.
