Responsible for assisting in the coordination and delivery of health and nutritional services to children enrolled in the Head Start program. Oversees the food service program to ensure it meets USDA approved standards. Plans all menus including those that have substitution requirements because of children with allergies, or other restrictions, supervises cooks in the cafeteria, and keeps accurate records of meal counts and USDA reimbursements. Assists with sensory screenings, acts as clinic aide for minor illnesses and injuries; ensures proper distribution of prescribed medication to children, and completes reports and medical forms. Performs related duties as assigned, including some clerical functions such as entering information into databases that pertain to USDA and medical information.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent, and 1-2 years experience in nutrition, nursing, or food service; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with good driving record mandatory.

Must possess a valid Food Handler's card and Serve Safe Certification, or have the ability to obtain such certifications upon being hired.

Possession of a current Infant/Child First Aid/CPR certification.

Requires acceptable criminal and child protective services background checks.

Supplemental Information:

DMV records and background checks conducted prior to employment.

Tuberculosis screening conducted prior to employment.

This position is considered an Essential Position (County designation as ALPHA) which requires the employee to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled work hours, or as notified by a supervisor.

Physical Demands:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment, including computers, word processors, copiers, etc. Must be able to operate a variety of medical equipment. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. There is a good deal of standing and walking when cooking, grocery shopping, and serving meals.
