EGW Personnel is a full-service, professional staffing firm specializing in direct hire and contract-to-hire staffing for clients located in Rochester, NY. We are currently searching for a highly analytical, detailed and organized Senior Health Underwriter/Actuary with a strong math aptitude for our well-established S&P 500 client. This 40-year old company employs about 400 people and manages approximately $45 billion in assets for individuals, corporate benefit plans, union pension and annuity funds, endowments, foundations, profit sharing plans, and 401(k) plans in all states.
Evaluate client cost/utilization to inform the comprehensive health plan design process, including integration of utilization data in the wellness and incentives components of the plan design
Evaluate insurer premium rate quotes for new and renewing group experience rated health insurance customers in the mid-sized market.
In the case of self-funded clients in the mid-sized market, analyze existing and prospective business utilizing established underwriting criteria, policies and rating methodologies in order to establish premium equivalency rates for customers and recommend reserve levels
Develop various underwriting analyses/exhibits for premium rates, retention illustrations, self funded exhibits, stop-loss pricing and recommended levels, and letters of agreement
Recommend alternate funding methods as needed
Advise Employee Benefits Sales and Consulting Teams on critical case information, improvements in underwriting methods and overall business strategy
Act as a mentor in the training and development of Senior Account Managers in claims analysis
Demonstrate an expert understanding of health and welfare products, services and technical tools
Support the Employee Benefits Sales and Consulting Team in the field with clients on underwriting related matters
B.S. degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, Finance or Economics and 5+ years group health underwriting experience required
Must have GPA and SAT/ACT scores available
Strong understanding of health care plan design and current developments in the health care industry with an emphasis on consumer driven health plans needed
Strong math aptitude
Demonstrated experience with underwriting methodologies and rating processes required
Proficient with MS office also required
Experience with Benefit Informatics a plus
Preference will be given to individuals that have passed at least one Society of Actuaries exam
Full-Time, Days. Direct hire. Team environment with tight timeframes in Rochester.
