The purpose of the Health and Wellness Coordinator is to manage and oversee the fitness area and all health, fitness and wellness programs in and outside of the Recreation Center. This position is responsible for the management of the fitness desk, fitness area, dance and aerobics room, indoor track and fitness equipment. This position provides direction to employees, functioning as a building supervisor when necessary, and will be responsible for supervising staff and activities in other areas of the building during those times, including set ups and break downs for rental contracts.
This is a supervisory position with one full-time direct report and four part-time reports that they must orient, train, evaluate and instruct. They also are the direct contact for six (6) personal trainers and varying amounts of contract instructors.
The hours of this position are Monday - Friday, 10am-7pm, with rotating weekends.
Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner
Provides leadership, training and supervision to assigned full and part time staff
Responsible for the management of the fitness desk, aerobics/dance room, fitness area and track, fitness equipment and health, fitness and wellness programming
Prepares and maintains health and wellness budget; monitors equipment and repair expenses; prepares monthly financial reports and revenue generation estimates.
Assists with the supervision and coordination of facility reservations and rentals
Plans, promotes, and evaluates health, fitness and wellness special events and related programs
Assists with the purchase of fitness equipment by evaluating the equipment and making recommendations
Oversees fitness certification training programs for personal trainers and group fitness instructors; monitors independent contractors to ensure compliance with City regulations
Provides wellness education and fitness training information to Recreation Center members and City employees
Plans and develops seminars for Recreation Center members on the multiple dimensions of wellness; delivering presentations or engaging presenters according to availability and the best interests of the facility
Conducts tours of the facility, demonstrates the use of fitness equipment, outlines policies and procedures for new members and guests to help familiarize them with the Cedar Hill Recreation Center; provides information to the public about all parks and recreation facilities, specifically focusing on the Recreation Center facility programming
Orders, maintain inventories, inspect, and maintain individual and group exercise and weight training equipment; develop effective working relationships with other City staff and vendors to complete routine repairs and adjustments; develops, implements and evaluates a preventative maintenance program for all health and fitness equipment
Develops, produces and distributes brochures, fliers and other promotional materials to promote fitness and member wellness activities, events and participation
Identifies and recommends additions, modifications and deletions to the Cedar Hill Recreation Center policies and procedures
Effectively works with other Cedar Hill employees to plan and coordinate special events, playing a lead role for those related to fitness and member wellness and an assistive role for other events
Remains apprised of new developments, enhancements and issues in the field by networking with other health and fitness professionals, researching journals, and attending related training
Serves as the risk manager for fitness center, weight room, dance and aerobics room, fitness programs, and fitness equipment
Serves on the City of Cedar Hill Health and Wellness Committee
Regular attendance required
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services Administration, Sports Management or closely related field required.
Two years' experience with health, fitness and wellness programming and prior experience with managing recreation/fitness facilities required.
Experience with CLASS software and audio/visual (AV) equipment preferred.
At least one personal training or group exercise certification from a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited program required. Specialty certifications and/or training (Pilates, Nutrition, TRX, Etc.) are preferred.
Ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire: Valid Texas Class C Driver's License, CPR/AED and First Aid Certified through either Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire: Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP)
