The Production Supervisor assists the Heating Plant Manager in the operation of high-pressure gas, oil, and coal fired boilers and associated equipment and supervises the work of other personnel, providing for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of heating plant boilers and systems, and related equipment.
The position's assigned shift is 7:00am-3:30pm, but fluctuates greatly to include rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Some duties include:
Supervise the work of other personnel.
Develop work schedules to cover a 24-hr operation.
Assist Manager in the procurement/inventory of fuels, water treatment chemicals, supplies, equipment, and materials.
Conduct inspections of boilers and equipment, ensuring compliance with policies/procedures/codes.
Develop and implement training programs, review/maintain training reports, update manuals.
Develop and implement safety procedures, procure required PPE, complete safety inspections.
Review daily shift logs and operation sheets, review daily labor hours.
Oversee the campus meter reading and file appropriate paperwork.
Oversee the water treatment program, conduct inspections, maintain records/logs, coordinate with vendors.
Fill in and provide coverage for absences and vacancies.
May work in buildings containing asbestos materials.
Will work near high temperature surfaces, high pressure steam, high temperature and pressure vessels, hazardous chemicals, explosive conditions, hot or cold environments for extended periods of time, low humidity, confined spaces, high electrical voltage.
Will work in an environment containing coal dust, ash dust, and loud noise.
Minimum Requirements :
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Coursework in Industrial Boiler Technology or a directly related field
Minimum 4 years experience with high pressure boiler operations in a multi-fuel type facility and related equipment
Minimum 3 years supervisor experience
Must be proficient in directing the work of employees and in communicating written and verbal instructions
Valid Driver's License
Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques used in the operation and maintenance of high pressure coal/gas/oil fired boilers
Must be able to react in emergency situations
Must be willing to be flexible and work a variety of shifts/holidays/weekends to cover absences/vacancies
Must have knowledge and experience using a computer
Must be proficient with MicroSoft Office Applications
Must have basic mechanical skills, the ability to operate basic hand tools, power tools, car hoe, welders, computerized boiler automation equipment, computerized work stations, water analysis lab equipment, diagnostic equipment, coal handling equipment and payloader
Must be able to work in buildings containing asbestos materials
Must be able to work off ladders and/or scaffolding as high as 40 feet or more
Must be able to work in hot or cold environments for extended periods of time
Must be able to lift objects in excess of 100 pounds, work in confined spaces, withstand long hours of standing, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, and work with hands overhead without restrictions
Will be tested and must be approved to wear a full-face respirator
