Performs service duties and technical procedures according to Midwest Kidney Centers'' Policy and Procedures to provide care, comfort and safety to dialysis patients. Collects patient data within the clinical standards; reports significant variances to registered nurse. Establishes workload priorities and offers input into patient plan of care; encourages patient participation in plan of care. Provides and documents care within standards of practice, policies, procedures and protocols consistent with the Dialysis plan of care under the supervision of an RN. Demonstrates competency in all required areas, including department-specific, age-specific, and use of equipment.
*High school diploma or equivalent.
*One year hemodialysis experience preferred. C.N.A. or P.A.L. experience helpful.
*Able to communicate verbally and in writing; perform basic math skills. Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, visitors and physicians in a courteous manner.
*Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, kneel and assist in lifting objects weighting 60 pounds or more; able to assist patients and/or adjust equipment at floor level; able to support persons (possibly 200 pounds or more) in emergency situations; able to move quickly from place to place on occasion, including from floor to floor in emergency situations; able to push and/or pull supply carts, gurneys, dialysis equipment, bed and/or wheelchairs. Must possess visual acuity to meet visual demands in distinguishing between colors, view video display terminal and use keyboard.
*Must be able to work under stress and adapt to changing conditions. Is expected to be an example of good health habits.
*Job duties involve the potential for frequent exposure to blood and body fluids.
