The CREC Polaris Center’s Clinical Day School, an alternative educational setting in East Hartford, is seeking energetic, innovative High School Special Education Teacher to join the faculty. The school serves emotionally disturbed and learning disabled teenagers (grades 7-12) who may also have social skills deficits, mental health issues and behavioral challenges.
Teachers utilize a variety of curricula, supported by technology, in delivering instruction, as well as incorporating lessons into service learning projects on campus and in the community. Our mission is to reach out to and engage students who may be at risk for not graduating and who are lacking the skills necessary for the world beyond high school.
Selected candidates will have a proven track record of successfully working with special needs students, linking academics with life skills, assisting students with developing appropriate coping mechanisms and positive problem-solving strategies. Patience, creativity, flexibility, a sense of humor and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student population will serve you well.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree and current CT certification (or certification-eligible) in Special Education.
At least two years teaching experience with adolescents with social, emotional, behavioral and learning problems; completing assessments; developing goals and objectives and writing IEP's.
Previous experience teaching high school science a plus.
Computer competency and working knowledge of SmartBoard technology for instructional purposes highly recommended.
