The role of the histotechnologist is to perform routine and complex histological procedures and to help maintain the smooth operation of the Histology department and laboratory as a whole. The histotechnologist is responsible to the Pathologist concerning the daily work and administratively responsible to the Histology Section Head and Lab Director.
  • Completion of an accredited histotechnology program or graduation with a bachelors of science degree in a related field i.e biology or medical technology with on-the-job training in histology with one year full time experience.
  • Registration, or eligibility, as a histotechnologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), or another certifying agency approved by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
