Responsible for accuracy in the process and preparation of tissue specimens for pathological examination. Must have a working knowledge of histology, histology equipment/instruments and computers.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Possess a working knowledge of histology procedures, including embedding and microtomy.
Possess a working knowledge of special stains and can perform manually.
Possess a working knowledge and can perform immunohistochemical stains.
Perform and assist pathologists with frozen sections.
Assist Histology Technician in the gross room on a weekly rotation, including specimen retrieval and/or accurate accessioning and labeling of specimens/cassettes.
Ability to “troubleshoot” instrument, reagent or procedural problems.
Be adaptable, flexible and have excellent time management skills
Available for “On-Call” weekend rotations for Frozen Sections.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required
Must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as an HT or HTL or be certification eligible. Must become certified within eighteen months of employment.

Must possess excellent human relation skills and the ability to perform at a high degree of efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness. Must be able to perform the duties of a Histologist to include age specific laboratory needs of the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
Must possess manual dexterity and motor coordination skills. Must be able to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time. Must possess good communication skills (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). Must be able to perform medium work that requires lifting 50 lbs maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Possess normal color vision. Includes exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, laboratory chemicals and hazardous material. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
Physical presence onsite is essential. Vision and hearing must be normal or corrected to within normal. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
