Historic Site Caretaker
The Caretaker watches over and maintains a 30 acre historic site in Southwestern Idaho to ensure site safety and security in all seasons. The Caretaker welcomes visitors, answers questions, and educates the public. Visitors come to this unique historic site for many reasons, including interest in the buildings, features, outdoor experiences, and spiritual comfort.
The successful candidate is paid a modest salary and will live in the provided one-bedroom apartment at the property and maintain “Open” hours daily from 8:00 a.m. until dusk. Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the site is safe, security is maintained, and visitors are welcomed.
- Maintain grounds and walking trails during all seasons, including mowing, spraying weeds, moving firewood, managing wood burning stoves occasionally, and keeping premises clean.
- Light structure maintenance during all seasons, including cleaning the exterior of buildings, cleaning rain gutters, and putting up/taking down Christmas lights and displays.
The position requires a very responsible person who passes a background check, has an outgoing personality, and shall ensure visitors have a safe visit. The Caretaker will be on site during the busiest days of the week (typically Thursday through Monday) to make his or her presence known. The Caretaker’s job performance is measured by the continued goodwill expressed by the visiting public, the safety and tidiness of the premises, willingness to preform additional tasks as requested, and consistent communication with supervisors. The successful candidate will demonstrate impeccable integrity and must respect Christian values presented throughout the property. A desire to learn local history and a willingness to educate visitors is expected.
