A Seasonal Housekeeper/Custodian's primary responsibility is to maintain the cleanliness of the Highland Center complex. This includes cleaning guest rooms, bathrooms and common areas, as well as the set-up, break down and cleaning of meeting and office space. There may be some grounds work such as snow shoveling or raking, depending on the season. The Housekeeper/ Custodian will also be trained to help in the dining room as needed. The successful candidate should be able to work well with a group and also be able to work alone to accomplish a list of tasks. There is some flexibility on arrival and departure dates. Average work week, 40 hrs; additional hours maybe required based on business.

Duties and Responsibilities

These tasks include but are not limited to:
Highland Center Main Lodge :
Clean shared and private guest bedrooms on a daily basis. Private room guests are to have housekeeping services daily, which includes bed making and cleaning private bathrooms.

Clean shared bathrooms on second and third floors daily.

Clean public bathrooms on first floor twice daily.

Responsible for daily cleaning of the following guest spaces:
~ Living room

~ Sitting Room

~ Library

~ All hallways and stairwells

~ Basement rooms and halls, including the Game room and Vending room

Launder linens and towels used by guests as well as any education equipment that is in need of laundering.

Clean meeting rooms on the first floor of the lodge

Front entrance and store area

Clean/ organize loading dock daily

Deep cleaning of the Highland Center Complex weekly/monthly as needed. This may at times include larger cleaning projects. It may include lifting, moving furniture and climbing ladders.

Attend BI-weekly custodial/housekeeping meetings as well as staff meetings.

Responsible for guiding tours at the Highland Center facilities when requested by supervisor.

Thayer Hall:
Cleaning of offices

Thayer meeting rooms, including Washburn Room

Bathrooms on the 1 st floor of Thayer Hall and employee bathrooms

Clean volunteer apartment

Shapleigh Bunkhouse

Making beds, cleaning bathrooms, kitchen, living room and porch

Depot and Baggage House (Seasonal)

Clean Clivus (bathrooms) twice daily

Bring trash up from Depot/ Clivus daily

Bring clean towels to Depot and bring dirty towels to main lodge daily

Other

Some snow shoveling and garden maintenance maybe required.

The seasonal housekeeper/custodian will also be asked to times to assist in the restocking of the wood furnace. (GARN)

Participate in the Highland Center Recycling program by sorting recyclable items from trash, collecting items from recycling stations located throughout the complex, taking said items to the loading dock and putting them in the proper receptacles.

Promote a team approach by providing support to those within the Department as well as those in other departments and divisions, and encouraging other employees to do the same.

Setting up tables and chairs in meeting rooms; this may include heavy lifting and carrying.

Help maintain composting system

Help in the dining room as dishwasher, server or food prep as needed

And any other duties as requested by the Head Housekeeper, Housekeeping/ Grounds Supervisor/ Lodging Manager, or the Facility Director, or other department heads as needed

Employment Standards

Education/Experience:
Any combination of education and experience which provides the required skills and knowledge for successful job performance. One year experience in housekeeping desirable.

Physical Abilities required: Ability to stand, sit, walk, move freely and climb stairs unassisted. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally from floor to chest height. Ability to travel safely on rough terrain.

Compensation

Room and Board is available at the Highland Center. Note: must be 18 years old at time of hire to live on site.
