This role will be a champion for creating a safe, inclusive and highly productive culture by effectively managing and implementing human resources activities for the West Virginia facilities. These activities include recruiting, performance management, training and development, human resource policy and procedure administration and resolution of specific policy-related and procedural issues, HR reporting, and payroll administration. Responsibilities Include: Be a champion for plant safety and performance by understanding how the HR role can partner with employees and management to improve safety performance and drive a high performing safety culture. Participate as a key member of the site management team, providing HR analysis and recommendations that support the achievement of employee and organizational matters, site operations and productivity objectives. Ensure recommendations are compliant with internal and external requirements, involve key stakeholders and appropriate documentation of all facts is completed. Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies and processes for hourly recruitment. Conduct all hourly employee recruitment at site. Support salaried recruitment efforts managed out of Beachwood office. Ensure all recruitment compliance activities are followed and appropriately documented (postings, job files, pre-employment screenings, EEO/AAP annual filing, data tracking, etc.). Participate in Aleris Operating System and Information Center for the site by establishing key HR performance indicators to measure effectiveness, make problems visible, drive change and ensure success. Work with managers, supervisors and employees to resolve employee relations and provide advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation. Ensure thorough analysis of issues and documentation of facts and formulate sound and compliant recommendations. Exercise appropriate judgment to engage corporate and regional resources when needed. Promote positive employee relations and teamwork at the facilities and establish activities that drive results in this area. Develop understanding of labor contract, work with Sr. Manager, HR RSAA and plant manager to review and resolve grievances, and ensure components of contract are followed. Participate in the labor negotiation process. Working with regional and corporate HR, design and conduct new employee on-boarding and orientations. Develop on-boarding/orientation for various roles at each facility. Drive talent management and human resources planning systems. Identify high-performing, high potential individuals to help build plant bench strength and succession planning. Identify HR implications and anticipate HR needs (staffing, organizational, training, etc.) based on business conditions, capital expenditure projects, productivity initiatives, etc. Actively engage HR in Aleris toll gate processes for activities at assigned sites. Conduct training in HR and employment-related subjects and serve as facilitator in assimilation, change and problem-solving exercises. Lead site support for corporate initiatives such as CEO Town Hall meetings, annual benefits enrollment, etc. Audit HR practices for West Virginia sites to ensure compliance with regulatory and Company requirements. Make recommendations and execute necessary actions. Manage all HR administration for West Virginia facility including timely and effective entry of payroll information for both hourly and salaried employees, file management, unemployment claim inquiries, maintaining HR Oracle system transactions and data integrity. Administer and explain benefits to employees, serve as liaison between employees and insurance carriers as needed for both West Virginia facilities.
Required Qualifications: Bachelors degree in business, industrial or labor relations, human resources or other applicable discipline required. Minimum three (3) years experience as HR Generalist, Recruitment, talent management, etc. Experience working with labor union workforce including contract negotiation experience and grievance management preferred. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of HR compliance, employment laws and regulatory requirements. 10% travel to other plants within region required. Must have the ability to occasionally extend stay at a particular site. Must be able to visit and work in all areas of the facilities. Key behaviors and skills should include: Expert knowledge and experience with all Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and PowerPoint. Proficiency with email system. Experience working with databases and systems such as Access, SAP, KRONOS or Oracle highly preferred. Experience with meeting and candidate scheduling, calendar management and making travel arrangements. Exceptional resourcefulness, judgment, analytical and interpersonal/communication skills. Ability to interface and communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization. Ability to multitask and perform under deadline pressures. Possesses strong sense of urgency demonstrating the ability to react to situations quickly and effectively. Team player with the ability to work collaboratively across all functions and departments. Ability to demonstrate strong initiative to proactively handle problems as they arise in an environment with multiple priorities. Positive, high energy, and self-motivated.
