The Industrial Design Manager plays a key role in the overall design process by synthesizing design project briefs and other strategic inputs and initiatives into project plans that translate into excellence in creative Industrial Design execution across brands and across sectors. The Industrial Design manager is responsible for project management activities including coordination and facilitation of multi-disciplinary teams of both internal and external partners. The Industrial Design Manager has a background in and proficiency in Industrial Design methods and practices as well as a deep understanding of other related design and cross functional disciplines such as marketing, R&D, branding, graphic design, design strategy, interaction design, design research, design engineering and design operations and is able to collaborate, coordinate, and engage with various cross functional business partners both strategically and tactically. The Industrial Design manager is responsible for orchestrating multiple projects and initiatives concurrently in order to deliver creative outcomes that provide exceptional consumer and patient experiences as well as managing, developing, and mentoring more junior roles.
Primary responsibilities include: Lead Industrial Design projects of various complexity and scope from concept generation through implementation, ensuring a high level of design and attention to detail. Lead and facilitate cross functional, multi-disciplinary team meetings and workshops. Proactively seek to gain necessary inputs and alignments from cross functional business partners. Manage cross-functional, integrated-team projects. Utilize knowledge of design and cultural trends to guide solutions. Advocate, drive, and execute environmentally sustainable design solutions. Be an active participant in cross functional project teams. Proactively seek out ways to improve design processes. Initiate, develop and maintain cross functional business partner relationships. Demonstrate strong visual, written, and oral, communication/presentation skills. Work independently as well as collaborates well in team environments led by a Design Director or Creative Director. Manage external vendors, consultants, agencies. Manage, develop, and mentor more junior roles. Manage multiple projects with critical deadlines. Manage project budgets
A Bachelors Degree in Industrial Design or related field is required. Masters Degree Preferred in Industrial Design or related field. Minimum of 8 years of overall business experience, with minimum of 6 years of design related experience is required. Must have a deep understanding of the various cross functional collaborative roles including: marketing, R&D, branding, graphic design, design strategy, interaction design, design research, design engineering and design operations. Posses the ability to independently lead multi-disciplinary project teams Sketching abilities to communicate design intent. Proficiency in relevant 3D modeling software (i.e. Solidworks) is required. Proficiency in relevant 3D rendering software Keyshot is required. Understanding of various prototyping methods is required. Strong understanding of various manufacturing methods and materials are required. Posses an understanding of environmentally sustainable design practices. Proficiency in other relevant design software (i.e. Adobe Suite) is required. Strong organizational and time management skills are required. Prior people management experience preferred. Ability to travel up to 35% both domestically and internationally
