Spelman College seeks a teacher/scholar dedicated to excellence in teaching and to the continued enhancement of the academic environment for students and colleagues. Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education. All tenure-track candidates are expected to have a demonstrated interest in liberal arts and sciences education, be able to contribute effectively to undergraduate teaching, mentoring and advising, assist in curriculum development, provide service to the department and College, as well as be active in scholarly, creative, and/or research productivity appropriate to a liberal arts environment. The Internal Studies Program invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2013. The candidate is expected to teach the two gateway courses Introduction to International Studies and World Politics and offer upper division-level courses in some or all of the following areas: Development and Globalization; Intercultural Communication, and Comparative Field Research Methods. The teaching load is three courses per semester. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic teacher-scholar whose area of expertise operates at the nexus of research, theory and practice; uses an interdisciplinary approach in his or her scholarship, be able to collaborate with faculty across disciplines, participate in student advising and in other activities that help to implement program goals. Qualifications: Ph.D. in area(s) of expertise; providing evidence of successful teaching and scholarly achievement, as well as ability to enhance the growth of the program. Preference will be given to candidates whose background and region of focus can contribute to the curriculum in Asian Studies.
