Leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators is looking for an IP Network Engineer who will develop designs, detailed specifications, and documentation for metropolitan area networks (MAN), wide area networks (WAN), network points of presence and regional and national data centers. This person will also handle a variety of other responsibilities that include design engineering, IP address management, hardware and software testing and network upgrades.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with other engineers and technicians to test new hardware, software revisions, and network designs to support a nation-wide service provider network.
  • Create designs, specifications and documentation for datacenter, command and control and bearer networks.
  • Manage public and internal IP address resources.
  • Create methodology and execution procedures for implementing network design changes.
  • Lead the first official application of network design changes, working with integration and operational engineers.
  • Evaluate the capacity of the existing production network and generate augment plans to ensure adequate capacity is always in place.
  • Manage system performance through defining KPI/KQIs and associated performance thresholds for the network systems. Measure and report on performance.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of design practices and network implementation process.
  • Act as escalation point for tier-III engineers to troubleshoot installation problems and outages.
  • Maintenance window (after-hours) work will be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5-10 years of experience in IP network engineering.
  • Network certification such as CCIE or JNCIE preferred.
  • Four-year degree in technical discipline preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill.
  • Knowledge of OSI model with emphasis on Layers 2 and 3.
  • Thorough knowledge of service provider IP architectures.
  • Thorough knowledge of implementing, operating, and troubleshooting BGP, OSPF, and RIP routing protocols.
  • Working knowledge of VPN and tunneling technologies focusing on IPsec VPNs.
  • Hands on experience with Cisco and Juniper routers, switches, and security appliances.
  • Working knowledge of network capture and analysis tools, with the ability to analyze protocol and application behaviors.
  • Working knowledge of highly available datacenter network technologies.
  • Hands on experience integrating network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, security appliances and terminal servers.
  • Advanced knowledge of IP address management including process to obtain addresses and provide reporting to ARIN.
  • Advanced knowledge of Visio. Able to create complex network diagrams and other documentation.
  • Familiar with SIP, SBC, media gateways, and other facets of VoIP architecture.
