Managers of Infrastructure Operations at Twitter provide the leadership needed to build technologies that flawlessly serve the billion tweets our users submit on a weekly basis. As Twitter evolves, we need managers to lead the engineering teams that keep our systems and core services reliable and constantly scaling. We believe passion and personality matter; as such, we need leaders that can manage diverse, smart, and driven engineers while balancing day to day people management with moving the business forward both technically and culturally.
As a successful IO SRE manager at Twitter, you will ultimately own the day-to-day health and uptime of the services your IO SRE team supports; to succeed in this, you will:
Own and drive the SRE program for the technical area under support, working in close collaboration with the appropriate software development leadership and technical leads.
Bring a strong perspective and collaborative partnership environment that drives change and motivates engineers to develop simple, elegant solutions to complex operational or reliability challenges.
Represent other parts of the broader Reliability Engineering team (including datacenter management, capacity planning, network engineering, database administration, and the command center), acting as an ambassador to drive the mission and goals of the organization through other engineering teams.
Possess the technical experience and hands-on technical skills to partner with team members and be comfortable diving into the fray as needed.
Mentor the professional development of each SRE by helping them build and execute personal development plans that map to our organization goals.
Recruit relentlessly, acting as a quality source of engineering talent and being comfortable closing candidates.
Give SREs the tools, confidence, and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to their personal and professional success.
5+ years of software support, reliability, and operations engineering experience.
2+ years of successful engineering management experience in a technical operations environment: managing a team of at least four engineers.
Experience in managing systems administrator with a focus on host based security, Proxy services, Puppet, Bastion services, large scale DNS implementation, and open source monitoring.
Previous operational responsibility for business critical production systems, in a collaborative business environment (contract operations management, or ownership of only lab and test management systems, is not sufficient).
Embody Twitter's core values and demonstrate the ability to instill them in others; among these are: communicating fearlessly to build trust, seeking diverse perspectives, and respecting the user's voice.
