The IT Applications Specialist position is located on Fort Dietrick, Maryland with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID). Candidates must be U.S. Citizens and be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance .

The Information Services Office (ISO) is responsible for the implementing and maintaining USAMRIID’s Information Management Systems, hereafter referred to as the Information Technology (IT) Portfolio. The IT Portfolio is a combination of USAMRIID developed, Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS), and Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) Database Management Systems. The IT Portfolio is used to support USAMRIID’s administrative and research functions, and is crucial in the production of quality research products

The IT Application Specialist is the technical expert responsible for sustaining and developing the IT Portfolio, using ISO approved application development tools.

Serve as the Primary or Secondary Application Specialist on one or more systems in the IT Portfolio. Utilize techniques in Systems Analysis, Data Modeling, Process Modeling, System Design, System Construction, Application Architecture, Database Design, Input & Output Design, User-Interface Design, and Object-Oriented program to sustain and develop systems in the IT Portfolio. Sustain existing systems in the IT Portfolio. Sustainment is the ongoing maintenance of a system after it has been in operation, including system improvements. Sustainment activities shall include many of the following: updating user accounts, maintaining software libraries, correcting errors (bugs), unit testing, system testing, providing version control, updating documentation, end-user training, end-user assistance, producing reports, data mining, transferring data sets, system enhancement, system reengineering, and system decommission. Utilize techniques in Evolutionary Prototyping to develop systems for the IT Portfolio. Evolutionary Prototyping involves building robust prototypes in a structured manner for deployment. As new requirements emerge, the previous prototype is refined and expanded to fulfill the new requirements. Provide end-user training and training documentation for IT Systems . Required to develop SharePoints solutions that utilize tools that enable workflows, webpart, and ASP pages. Expected to utilize Javascript, JQuery, and related web technologies. Prepare briefings and demonstrations for senior management for systems that they are assigned in the IT Portfolio.

At least 5 years of experience in support ing IT Systems. Candidate must have completed a t wo-year degree (AA/AS) or an IT specific certificate program. Requires training and experience developing Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 solutions. Experience developing Microsoft applications to include .NET technologies. Technical experience with Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server is required . Security+ certification desired .

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must currently possess or be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance .
