Participates as a member of a global team responsible for all of HP's databases, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and new generation database technologies. As part of this worldwide team, the engineer will have three main areas of focus:
Operational innovation: identification and development of automated and innovative solutions that solve class issues, improve the quality of the environment, and/or drive work out of the system.
Proactive management: Direct ownership and accountability for the health of individual database systems. This includes taking action before any potential issues arise and/or developing processes that detect early indicators of issues. Further, work with development teams to remedicate code issues that cause problems.
Production operations: Management of production systems via dashboards and monitors. Participate and lead escalations that drive timely restoration of service and reduce impact to HP business.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar degree.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Exposure to database concepts and technologies from a development and/or administration perspective. Basic understanding of data modeling and RDBMS technologies. Strong programming skills in scripting languages and C, C++, or .NET. Unix and Windows skills.
Strong Written and Verbal Skills:
