This position is responsible for designing, developing, and debugging client/server and web-based applications to support the Bridge Software Institute and associated research projects and grants. This position is also responsible for the management, operation, and installation of required servers and applications needed to support the needs of the Bridge Software Institute, a part of Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure and Environment.
Design, development, and debugging of applications used for the storage, manipulation, presentation, and transfer of XML bridge data based on the defined XML Schemas. This development is using Visual Basic.Net and SQL 2005. Supervision and training of a part-time student assistant who is assigned tasks associated with DIGGS .
Act as security administrator for the BSI servers. Responsible for meeting campus security policies. Miscellaneous design, development, and debugging of web-based applications and website as needed. Extend and perform additional development and maintenance on the web pages of BSI to include the IPAY fully electronic transaction system. Development, auditing, and security improvement to ensure compliance with the Payment Card Industry ( PCI ) Data Security Standards. Develop and maintain applications to aid the licensing checking for the BSI products. The applications will check online the validity of the program license and their status. BSI licenses software and uses the web to validate its uses.
Maintain, patch, backup and upgrade BSI application servers and workstations as necessary to provide a secure and stable environment for all supported applications. Development, maintenance, and testing of disaster recovery plans for BSI applications, servers, and workstations. Maintains knowledge and skills through reading, self-study, on-line and face-to-face learning activities. Research techniques, applications, and processes in order to provide accurate estimates on effort required to implement proposed projects. Collaborate with BSI on the writing of grant proposals involving XML and client/server and/or web-based applications.
Provide technical support to other software developers and clients interacting with the FDOT / BSI storage database and applications. Support external developers and interact with them to meet contract requirements and develop specifications. Proved key liaison activities with external groups to develop processes and applications that automate and improve the FDOT contract efforts and requirements.
Assist in debugging and testing existing code. Validate program results, including creation of example models, and documentation of validation processes.
Assist in testing installation packages in Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.
A high school diploma and four years of any combination of relevant experience, education and/or certification. The level of expertise and skill required to qualify for a position in this classification is generally attained through combinations of education and experience in the field. While such employees commonly have a bachelor’s or higher degree, no particular academic degree is required.
Associate degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience; Or Bachelor degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience
Experience with Microsoft Windows development environment including Microsoft Windows 2000/2003, SQL Server 2000/2005, ASP , Visual Basic. NET . Experience with Microsoft Windows 7 and InstallShield a plus. Knowledge of VB and VB. NET also a plus. Knowledge of C++ and Visual C++ a plus. Knowledge of openGL a plus. Experience with XML technologies including storage, manipulation, and transfer.
