TITLE : Business Information & Process Management Intern
LOCATION : Boston, MA

REPORTS TO : Application Support Analyst
COORDINATES WITH : IT Department
PURPOSE OF POSITION : Assist the Oxfam America (OA) IT Department by evaluating and improving internal information management systems, and researching and recommending best practices for Help Desk service management. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain real world experience at our global headquarters in Boston, MA, in the areas of process improvement, best practices in information management systems, technology support, and international development.
NOTE: OXFAM AMERICA WILL ONLY CONSIDER STUDENTS ENROLLED IN A FORMAL UNIVERSITY PROGRAM THAT GIVES ACADEMIC CREDIT FOR THIS INTERNSHIP.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Research and recommend Help Desk best practices
Research Help Desk best practices, including workflows, policies, and service license agreements (SLAs).
Document and streamline current OA IT Department Help Desk workflows and policies.
Make recommendations as appropriate for improvements to the existing Help Desk system and/or software.
Evaluate internal information management systems
Evaluate current IT Department information management systems and processes, including IT Department shared network drive.
Research best practices in information management systems.
Identify key sources of information sharing, storage, and use through discussions with IT Department staff.
Identify gaps, recommend, and design solutions for a more streamlined system.
EXPECTATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
The intern must be available full time (35-hour work week) during normal business hours (9am to 5pm).
The intern must work effectively and collaboratively in support of building a team-based culture of work; perform all duties appropriately for a multi-cultural environment, treating all persons with dignity and respect; and become familiar with and committed to Oxfam America’s mission and goals.
Current undergraduate or graduate student in information systems management, process improvement, business, communications, or a related liberal arts or business field; or equivalent work experience
Experience and Core Competencies:
Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
Very good oral and written communication skills
Ability to listen and ask pointed questions
Ability to simplify complex situations and/or systems
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and under pressure
Familiarity with MS Office suite, Windows 7 OS, the IT field
Experience or education in systems and/or organizational management
Knowledge of the field of international development
