Job Responsibilities

The SDSU Institute for Behavioral and Community Health bridges communities and science to conduct public health research. Our Choice/Nuestra Opción is 1 of 3 sites nationally implementing a 4-year (2011-2015) demonstration project funded by the CDC to design, implement, and evaluate a multi-sector, multi-level intervention to reduce childhood obesity in Brawley, El Centro, and Calexico in Imperial County. This study is conducted with the Imperial County Public Health Department (ICPHD) and Clínicas de Salud del Pueblo, Inc. Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Imperial County Community Coordinator (ICCC) will be responsible for coordinating the intervention development, delivery, and maintenance in the school sector intervention, child care and community recreation sectors in partnership with the ICPHD. The ICCC will also act as the Our Choice liaison for all intervention sectors. More specifically, responsibilities include: School Sector Intervention 50% Lead the development, coordination, implementation, and management of the intervention activities in 13 elementary schools focused on supporting wellness policies. Provide necessary feedback, training, presentations, on-site observations and technical assistance, and resources to support wellness policies, with quality standards-based physical education a top priority. Attend meetings as appropriate to promote monthly wellness messages, resources, and address barriers and concerns. Work with district nurse to coordinate annual BMI data collection. Childcare and Community Recreation Intervention 25% Lead on the development, coordination, and management of the intervention activities in 26 childcare centers and 3 community recreation sites in partnership with the ICPHD. Work with the ICPHD Health Education Specialist in the implementation of the intervention activities, providing feedback, training, on-site observations and technical assistance, and resources as necessary to ensure implementation according to protocols. Work with ICPHD and Our Choice evaluation team to coordinate BMI data collection in the child care centers. Community Coordination 20% Participate in sector working groups to ensure representative feedback into the development, modification, and progress of the intervention, and collaborative use of resources across sectors. Collect data to document the reach, dose and fidelity of the intervention implementation. Develop and write clear and concise reports and manual of procedures in conjunction with the Project Manager. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES AS ASSIGNED 5% Participate in meetings: trainings, intervention, staff, work group, community, & other as requested Successful completion of fingerprinting process and TB test is required prior to start date.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Two years of progressively responsible related experience Experience with program intervention development Strong bilingual English/Spanish-language speaking, writing, and reading skills

Knowledge of intervention activities focused on wellness and physical activity Knowledge of data collection and BMI collection Knowledge of the benefits of physical activity, water consumption, healthy sleep habits and healthful eating practices Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; email and internet Knowledge of Imperial County Ability to provide feedback, training and presentations Ability provide technical assistance and provide resources to support wellness policies Ability to interact effectively, professionally and diplomatically with people of foreign cultures and representatives of the community Ability to travel within san Diego, Imperial County, Brawley, El Centro and Calexico Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and pay attention to detail Ability to write protocols and procedures and prepare clear and concise reports Ability to function effectively as part of a team, yet able to work independently in a leadership role with limited supervision Ability to communicate in English and Spanish both orally and in writing Ability to provide effective direction & supervision to individuals & small groups Comfortable using computers, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, e-mail, and internet Ability to interact effectively with co-workers Ability to understand and follow posted work rules and procedures, Ability to relate well to others within the community environment Ability to be highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Ability to be well organized, meet deadlines, detail oriented; possess good judgment and common sense Ability to demonstrate a high level of cross-cultural sensitivity

Working Conditions

Involvement at the intervention sites will be in an indoor office environment and and outdoors Travel is required throughout Imperial County, specifically Brawley and El Centro. Some travel to San Diego as requested. Mileage reimbursement provided Ability to obtain a valid driver's license and insurance and/or reliable transportation Successful completion of background/ fingerprinting verificaiton and TB test is required prior to start date
