UPMC Physician Services Division is hiring full-time Improvement Specialist for the Administrative Services Department for the Oakland and various locations. This position is Monday thru Friday daylight office hours with flexibility for off hour visit and travel to various offices. The Clinical Improvement Specialist will work directly with Physician Services Division (PSD) practice sites to identify opportunities for clinical process improvement activities. This individual will be responsible for performing assessments of clinical workflows, the identification of risk issues for patients and providers, the formulation of recommendations for resolution. Additionally this individual will help to support the rollout of ambulatory clinical initiatives of other entities of the Health System such as the Electronic Health Record implementation teams, the UPMC Health Plan, and the UPMC Diabetes Institute.


-Assist with accomplishing the goals of the annual Medical Management Work Plan.
-Support EpicCare rollout for PSD practices; questionnaires, work plans, content sessions and go lives.
-Arrange and conduct clinical process assessments for the various primary care and specialty practice sites; develop written strategic planning documents outlining proposed resolution of identified risk issues and problem workflows; arrange and conduct a final review meeting with key practice personnel (physicians, administrators, managers) to present the recommended changes and the benefit to the practice of implementation; determine the timeframe for reassessment based on the individual practice and conduct the re-audit; maintain documentation on department shared drives.
-Assist Primary Care practices with the development of corrective action plans to enhance pay for performance activities of the various managed care entities.
-Champion ambulatory clinical initiatives in the PSD practices for other entities of the system, i.e., the Electronic Health Record implementation teams, UPMC Health Plan, the UPMC Diabetes Institute.
-Staff relevant committees of PSD as assigned by the Vice President or Administrator.
-Perform projects independently, establish deadlines, prioritize work, and keep supervisory staff appraised of the project's progress or identified barriers to completion.

Basic Qualifications

-RN or LPN with a current license in the Commonwealth of PA.
- Five (5) years clinical experience, preferably in an outpatient environment.
- Management experience and/or project management skills that demonstrate the incumbent's ability to plan, implement and manage complex clinical projects.
- Some knowledge of NCQA regulations and Managed Care Requirements for the ambulatory clinical setting.
- Ability to organize and execute assignments with minimal direction or supervision.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).

PROBLEM SOLVING: The individual must be able to work carefully and rapidly with attention to detail while managing multiple tasks and prioritizing the workload.
