Search for Independent ConsultantContract Position: Project Manager / Office Manager Reports to: Michael Janis, General Manager of the San Francisco Wholesale Produce MarketAbout the San Francisco Wholesale Produce Market:Located in San Francisco’s Bayview district, the San Francisco Wholesale Produce Market (SFWPM) is an association of dedicated professionals – united at one distribution center – committed to being the Bay Area's leading source of produce and produce information. We house over 45 independent businesses in approximately 363,000 square feet of warehouse and office space in 10 buildings, covering approximately 20 acres. Thirty of our merchants are food or produce-related businesses, and they provide close to 650 jobs in San Francisco. Each of our merchants is an independent business.We will soon finalize a new 60-year ground lease with the City and County of San Francisco, which owns the land where we are located.

This lease allows us to move forward with our expansion and redevelopment plans, which includes transitioning from our previous organizational structure to being a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The previous organization has been in place for approximately 50 years and is operated by a small on-site staff that focuses on property management and operations.More information is available at www.sfproduce.org.Project Background:We are looking for an independent consultant to work with our team to implement a broad variety of tasks related to transitioning to our new organization, which must be up and running in January 2013.The independent contractor will be responsible for defining and managing timelines and deadlines to ensure that multiple streams of work will be completed so we are fully functional as a new organization with a new name in January 2013. The consultant will primarily project manage and oversee current staff members as they implement the items necessary to be completed, but the contractor will also take on some implementation tasks. The items to be managed and implemented are varied, but include areas such as:-Identifying new legal counsel-Transferring bank accounts-Registering the new organization with government agencies-Updating HR manuals and procedures-Communicating with customers, vendors, and the general public about the new organization-Transferring insurance contracts to the new organization-Updating bylaws and other governing documents-Updating letterhead and marketing materials (print and online) to reflect the new organization-Potentially exploring a new office software systemIndependent Consultant Qualifications:The SFWPM is looking for an independent consultant who specializes in project management and office management to oversee implementation of these and other important items.

The consultant should have experience overseeing multiple, simultaneous streams of work being implemented by different individuals. The consultant should also have experience and the ability to implement tasks as needed, including research and follow-up. This is considered a mid-level position, requiring several years of project management experience and an ability to work independently.The consultant should have experience creating and managing timelines. The consultant can utilize their preferred project management scheduling format, such as MS Project or Excel.

Consultant should be experienced in reporting project status to management.Consultant should have experience working with small businesses and in a small office environment. An interest in food and / or food distribution is preferred.Hours, Location and Compensation:Weekly time commitment will vary, likely from about 5 hours per week to occasionally 15-20 hours per week, and will last through the remainder of 2012.
