The Tax Accountant position reports directly to the Senior Manager, Indirect Tax.
Primary responsibilities include:
Sales and Use Tax
Maintain US SAP billing systems Tax Decision Maker software including customer, product and jurisdictional codes and tax rates where necessary. Review additions, updates and revisions to customer and product master data to ensure that customer accounts tax properly. Monitor tax law changes and report internally on changes affecting sales and/or purchases. Respond to customer tax billing inquiries. Research and advise on internal sales and use tax questions and issues. Perform multi-state taxability analysis as necessary. Analyze purchases to support tax return use tax adjustments. Respond to tax jurisdiction inquiries and provide support for state sales and use tax audits. Correct vendor and customer accounts as necessary with sales tax credits, debits, and adjustments. Prepare journal entries; reconcile tax accrual accounts; prepare tax accrual report for returns. Work with return service provider to ensure correct return processing. Assist tax staff to resolve issues and provide guidance as appropriate. Report on unresolved sales and use tax issues to the Senior Manager, Indirect Tax. Update sales and use tax procedure manuals as necessary. Complete special projects as assigned by Tax Management.
Other Taxes and Compliance
The position will also support compliance associated with the Ohio CAT tax, Medical Device Excise Tax, payroll taxes, information reporting (i.e., Forms 1099, 1042, and 5500), and other areas.
Skills – Experience and Requirements:
BS Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business or equivalent experience in healthcare(5-7 years).
Great analytical, problem solving and communication skills.
Willing to roll up sleeves, ask questions, and work independently.
Ability to perform research on complex issues and articulate the information in a concise and meaningful way.
Extensive experience researching tax issues using legal research tools such as RIA, CCH and BNA.
Knowledge of Vertex and/or SAP is a plus.
Experience in budgeting is preferred.
