The Engineering position is responsible for supporting all aspects of vehicle production from building design and equipment selection to creating standardize work and staffing models. The engineer will serve as a technical leader to both the field and Home Office in development of the CarMax Production System.
• Subject matter expert on Lean concepts such as single piece flow, 5S, standardized work, and visual shop
• Responsible for creating standardized work and provide content for training materials on production line techniques
• Design building layouts to support the needs of the production system
• Selection and testing of all equipment, tools, materials, supplies, and processes
• Mentor locations in problem solving using a Toyota based methodology and assist them with developing action plans
• Lead and participate in Kaizen event
• Manage a team of 10 or less associates on small to medium size projects with some complexity and multiple processes
• Responsible for report out of results to the Executive level
• Define manufacturing standards and ensure current processes are capable of meeting the manufacturing standard
• Set labor standards and staffing guidelines

• Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects and tasks on time sensitive schedules
• Travel: on average 30% of the time, could exceed 30% depending on the project
• Facilitates group discussions with diplomacy
• Written and verbal skills are clear and professional and able to adjust to the appropriate audience
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to identify and conduct root cause analysis to problem-solve
• Ability to evaluate complex issues and develop innovative solutions

• Engineering degree, required
• 3 years of relevant engineering experience
