Job Description:
The Industrial Engineer works with and collaborates with
IE Management and Plant Management in defining,
developing, and implementing plant continuous
improvement projects in all areas of plant operations to
include: process and/or business changes to reduce
operating costs through project initiation,
implementation, tracking, and project audits to assure
objectives and goals are achieved.
Continuous Improvement
§ Identify opportunities for process or business changes
to reduce plant operating costs.
§ Provide and implement solutions to reduce labor,
reduce waste and improve throughput.
§ Lead analytical studies targeting industrial process
Analysis and Measurement Systems
§ Maintain and update plant capacity numbers.
§ Create reports to measure yield and labor performance.
§ Analyze performance metrics and data, understand, and
apply the numbers, explain discrepancies and address all
standards and systems using fact-based metrics.
§ Initiate, organize and approve/reject yield, labor and
standard changes as needed.
Project Management
§ Provide technical expertise and in the execution and
completion of IE Plant Projects.
§ Provide technical expertise, analysis, and direction
in IE projects to reduce negative variances.
§ Perform and evaluate economic analyses on different
§ Manage the processes and methods used to establish
yield, labor and supply standards.
§ Work closely with all internal customers at the plant
and product management groups. These are the two groups
that are most effected by the work of the IE department
and this position has to communicate clearly and
effectively with each.
§ Work closely with outside vendors for identification
and utilization of food manufacturing equipment.
§ Travel to processing plants in (within the Smithfield
locations) to compare and benchmark operations.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or
related Engineering field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant and related experience in the
food industry or manufacturing
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or experience with Lean
Manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to work closely with all internal customers,
primarily plant and product management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and familiarity with
manufacturing processes and process flow

  • Operational knowledge of AutoCAD LT.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
