Industrial Engineering Intern
The Industrial Engineering Intern will, in conjunction
with HOERBIGER’s industrial engineering and
manufacturing engineering staff, collect and analyze
data to design a Flexible and Lean (FLEAN) cell in the
machine shop. The intern will study the entire
production process of the cell to gain an understanding
of the machining operations in Houston, TX. The intern
will then develop multiple layout plans supporting a
pull system to determine an optimum cell layout and
operating parameters. The goal of this project will be
to positively impact the operations in the machine shop
through increased productivity and throughput, improved
quality and lower operating cost.
  • Research best practices for high-mix, low-volume
machining operations
  • Analyze data to determine optimal flow options based
on historical and the anticipated week-by-week
production plan using data extracted from the ERP system
  • Utilize CAD software to develop new layout designs
options for the cell
  • Determine space and equipment requirements
  • Develop a flexible labor allocation plan
  • Determine visual internal and external inventory
control mechanisms to connect the cell to other support
  • Develop a pull system to control material flow
logistics between the cell, Receiving and Shipping,
  • Present financial impact which supports making the
recommended changes (cost to launch vs. savings and
  • Facilitate the implementation of the approved layout.
  • Assist in the implementation of computerized
scheduling (PREACTOR) and manufacturing execution
(FACTORYVIEWER) in this cell.

Job Requirements:
Education and/or Experience: Master's degree in
Industrial Engineering and Operations Research or
related degree and 0-3 year experience in a
manufacturing industry; or an equivalent combination of
education and experience. This is a Full Time Paid
internship from January through August. Please submit
