Johns Manville, a Berkshire-Hathaway company and manufacturer of quality building insulation, is hiring responsible, quality-minded individuals who have a history of working safely in a manufacturing environment as MAINTENANCE MECHANICS in our Willows, CA Plant.

Under the responsibility Plant Engineer and the general supervision and direction of the Maintenance Supervisor , our Maintenance Mechanic inspects, maintains, repairs and fabricates machinery, equipment, systems, buildings, facilities and physical structures. Must be a specialist in at least one of the following skill categories, mechanical or electrical, and will perform work within the other skill, when it is a requisite for job completion or when directed by supervision. Working with complex blueprints, diagrams, sketches and from general verbal and written instructions, according to established operating procedures, performs the following essential functions:
· Follows JSA's, uses safe work practices, and reports hazardous conditions at all times. Wears safety shoes and other protective clothing and equipment as required.
· Plans and lays out work to accomplish their assigned job for maximum safety and efficiency.
· Reads, interprets, and follows complex blueprints, diagrams and sketches, making all measurements and calculations necessary to complete job.
· Must be able to understand, troubleshoot, and repair relatively specialized equipment throughout the plant.
· Safely inspects machinery and equipment while in operation for proper safeguarding, diagnosing faulty operation, making adjustments or repairs as necessary to keep the equipment in safe operating condition.
· Removes from service those machines which require major repairs, revisions or additions to machinery and reinstalls, including proper safeguarding.
· Operates, maintains, inspects, lubricates, and repairs equipment as necessary.
· May make repairs to systems under emergency conditions in order to maintain plant operations.
· Inspects and performs alterations to plant buildings, mixes and pours concrete, and installs pipelines, millwork, fixtures, and similar equipment. Constructs equipment out of wood, metal, and other materials.
· Cuts, drills, taps, files, grinds, and fits all types of metal for fabrication, alterations, or repair to machines, building equipment, jigs and fixtures.
· Welds, brazes, cuts, solders, and silver solders all grades and types of metal from difficult positions and hard to reach locations.
· Uses hand and power tools of all kinds and a variety of measuring and testing instruments in a safe manner,
· Makes out work orders, requisitions, inspection reports, time distribution, material usage, etc., and performs other clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records relative to the work performed utilizing a computerized maintenance management system.
· May operate mobile equipment, including fork lifts, manlift, crane, and carts.
· Performs water treatment and fire equipment tests following prescribed methods. Adds materials and chemicals, and makes corrections and repairs based on test results.
· Works with other maintenance employees during cleanouts and emergencies, performing any duties to get equipment back into operation in minimum time.
Performs other related duties as directed, including duties of lower classifications.
Starts at $25.47 per hour for initial 60-working-day introductory period, increases to $27.07 per hour upon successful completion of the 60-working-day introductory period.
Requirements include: ü
A high school diploma or GED. ü The ability to write, speak and understand English and to comprehend and interpret detailed and technical information in communicated in English. ü The ability to stand for long periods of time. ü The ability to manually lift at least 50 pounds safely and with proper body mechanics, sometimes while in awkward positions. ü The ability to execute both fine and gross motor hand movements. ü The ability to work safely and effectively with a diverse workforce. ü The ability to respond to periodic emergency situations that may demand speed and accuracy. ü The ability to work safely in a fast-paced, often stressful work environment. ü The a bility to safely and effectively work in an often dusty work environment that experiences a broad range of temperatures (very hot to very cold). ü The ability to withstand the rigors of working a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, when necessary. ü The ability to remain alert and attentive during all hours of the assigned work shift.
