The Computer Forensics Consultant utilizes state of the art techniques that enable the recovery and use of critical electronic evidence for litigation, investigations and other fact-finding exercises. The Computer Forensics Consultant establishes whether evidence has been erased or modified; analyzes electronic content and patterns of Internet and e-mail usage; recovers deleted data; and assesses and explains metadata within recovered files. Our teams are also experts in maintaining the forensic integrity of evidence and ensuring an auditable chain of custody. We are also experienced in testifying to the results of our forensic analysis in-court or by affidavit.

All IMS consultants at all levels have excellent technical, analytical, data management, project management, writing, presentation, negotiation and communication skills. Applicants should have a strong technical skill set and be qualified and interested to deliver in service area below.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Litigation - eDiscovery Technology – Commensurate experience in the following areas

Forensic Data Collections - Acquire and exploit digital images using forensic tools to examine file structure, conduct text searches, examine deleted files and extract information.

Client Data Intake - Receive, categorize, document, and track digital storage mediums to include maintaining and ensuring a chain of custody for all items received.

Data Management - Ensure media capture data is tracked and accounted for and available for analysis in the case; prioritize workflows and coordinate data deliver for processing.

Data Duplication - Produce forensically sound duplicates of original media for examination/exploitation. Independently utilize password recovery tools and provide results and/or cracked files to the client.

Data Analysis – Examine active data, digital artifacts and related information to draw conclusions as to computer usage and contents. Independently locate and recover data within unallocated space of hard drives, and provide meaningful interpretations to Managing Directors and Directors.

Reporting and Interpreting Findings - Create thorough and complete reports that follow given standards; review reports and manage quality control on outgoing products; write scripts to refine workflow and exploitation automation; update databases to be used in cases such as link analysis; transfer images, reports and files to various hardware or applications for shipment; provide technical support to various team members. Draft expert reports, affidavits and other expert documents. Provide support for preparing for depositions, trials or 30(b)6 testimony.

Work Experience Requirements

Associates in Information Management Services that focus on computer forensics at AlixPartners, LLP typically have:

A minimum of four years of applicable professional and consulting experience.

Strong technical experience in examining personal computers and servers

An understanding of file system types and hard disk drive structures

A strong understanding of Windows based systems including installing, troubleshooting, and networking. Linux and UNIX experience is a plus

Experience with commercial computer forensics software, including products from Guidance Software, Access Data, Paraben, and BlackBag.

Knowledge of computer forensic best practices for search and seizure of digital evidence, including Chain of Custody concepts.

Knowledge of file types and file systems such as FAT, NTFS, EXT2 & 3, and HFS+.

Knowledge of various email clients, web browsers, file sharing applications, and email servers.

Knowledge of computer hardware and software including network devices and network protocols

Certifications desired: CFCE, CCE, EnCE, ACE, and CISSP

Ability to visually verify and decipher ASCII, binary and hexadecimal file system structures

Ability to understand client objectives and communicate results

Ability to describe complex technical concepts and ideas to in non–technical terms

Ability to simultaneously balance multiple client projects and other work responsibilities

Education Requirements

This position requires a Bachelors degree from a top university, with concentration in Computer Science and/or Management Information Systems, Accounting or Finance, or equivalent demonstrable work experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Sitting for long periods of time in close proximity to a computer screen.

Work may be performed at off-site locations, both indoors and outdoors.

Standing for long hours may be required at certain events.

Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs

Ability to work for extended periods of time at or on a PC or network equipment

Hours will vary based on clients’ needs, and may include evenings and weekends at times

Ability to use both large and small (fine) motor skills

Travel Requirements

Travel will vary based on clients' needs, and could result in up to 75% travel.
