Job Skills/Requirements

The Innovation Scientist develops, tests, evaluates and formulates new color products and solutions using existing and new/innovative processing technology and raw materials, as well as provides technical support to maintain and grow the full product line. Uphold all DDWs Mission Statement, Quality Policy, Values and Beliefs Product and Process Innovation and Implementation - Utilize new technology and materials to develop innovative, cost effective color solutions that fill market place gaps The Innovation Scientist develops, tests, evaluates and formulates new color products and solutions using existing and new/innovative processing technology and raw materials, as well as provides technical support to maintain and grow the full product line.

Uphold all DDWs Mission Statement, Quality Policy, Values and Beliefs
Product and Process Innovation and Implementation
  • Utilize new technology and materials to develop innovative, cost effective color solutions that fill market place gaps while meeting or exceeding customers expectations and generate new sales
  • Establishes new product specifications and successfully transfers new product offerings to manufacturing, ensuring a consistent manufactured product within a reasonable cost basis.
  • Employ scientific methods to characterize raw materials leading to innovations through an understanding of the physical and chemical properties.
  • Complete testing and validation of new color raw materials, new global suppliers and new formulations.
Customer Technical Support
  • Interface with global Applications Scientists to ensure their understanding and selection of appropriate colors in food and beverage systems to grow the commercial business. Provide training to the Application Scientists on innovate ways to use natural colors.
  • Provide product and applications data to Marketing to develop Sales support information. Originate science-based tools to convey product offerings and advantages to increase sales along with the promotion of D. D. Williamson as The Color House. Prepare, organize and present technical or application seminars to customers as requested by Sales or Marketing.
  • Collaborate with DDWs Global Food Science & Regulatory Manager to ensure applications are acceptable in the regional or global markets where sales are expected, including any special criteria such as organic, allergen and GM.
External Collaboration and Knowledge Building
  • Foster relationships with peers at key accounts, building the image of DDW as the Technological Leader in colors.
  • Develop and foster and collaborative relationship with color vendors and suppliers. Leverage relationship to acquire new technologies and new product offerings beneficial to DDW.
  • Establish strong relationships with selected academic researchers and universities to strengthen the use of analytical techniques and scientific understanding of natural colors to strengthen DDW as the technological color leader. Leverage relationships to identify potential new hires and/or resources that may be valuable to DDW.
  • Attend trade shows, conferences, scientific meetings and short courses as necessary.
Skill Requirements
  • Masters Degree or higher in Food Science or Food Engineering or Food Science Chemistry or related technical degree.
  • 0 - 5 years Lab, R&D and/or pilot plant experience required; food science / technology background required.
  • Strong background in analytical food chemistry and process technology.
  • Proven ability to articulate technical results to cross-functional team members.
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written.
  • Capable of planning and executing experimental design to achieve desired research objectives.
  • Occasional Global Travel
  • Occasional lifting may be needed to support pilot trials.
