Position Description:
Full-time, 12 months per year. The responsibilities of the person holding this position fall into three important categories, but with primary emphasis on general institutional research. This position requires the successful candidate to have strong analytical and research skills that will be utilized in the following areas:
General Institutional Research Performs qualitative and quantitative analyses of campus databases and other data sources and produces reports from these data sources using modern software tools. Retrieves information stored on the administrative mainframe and analyzes information (using Excel/Access /SPSS or query language). Assists in coordinating studies related to institutional assessment Prepares questionnaires for surveys – and in tabulating, describing, analyzing, and summarizing the results from such studies. Assists in preparing reports summarizing comparative statistics across SUNY and other peer institutions. Assists in preparing annual or specially requested reports by Institutional Research using graphic and tabular presentation of data. Develops and maintains OIR web segment serving external information. Maintains the JCC document repository. Within a culture of evidence, an assessment of the information in the JCC document repository is conducted on a regular basis. Creates and analyzes faculty evaluations for online courses when requested by the assistant deans. Assists the Assistant Dean of Research and Planning in meeting the research needs of the college's planning, development and marketing areas. Assists in responding to survey requests for college information from both internal and external sources. Gathers necessary information and enters onto report forms or creates electronic media files as required (e.g., by SUNY). Collects evidence to support various internal assessments such as general education, retention rates for selected population and SOS data. Creates and utilizes software applications for the development of optically readable survey questionnaires for college research initiatives dealing with Student Services, Academic Affairs, and Graduate and Alumni Affairs. Works closely with other college offices to insure timely processing and completion of requests, from both internal and external sources. Maintains PC data files, which serve as the basis for semester or annual institutional census reporting of students and employees. This includes creating trend reports for targeted populations such as housing, athletes, and international students. Maintains files containing audit trails, summaries of research findings, and copies of official college reports produced by Institutional Research. Maintains a log of all reports resulting from requests for college information. Limited supervision of student assistants. Works with institutional databases containing highly confidential information. Attends planning team meetings as requested and actively participates in team research agendas. Represents the Office of Institutional Research at various standing committees of the college.
Planning Assists in locating, evaluating, and reporting research data for the college planning process, particularly in the environmental and assessment review functions and in measuring institutional effectiveness. Training in a variety of areas such as goal creation, TracDat, and use and maintenance of the document repository Creating preliminary, mid-year, and year end reports for the annual plan, subplans, and functional areas. Maintaining logins and access for all TracDat users Assists in locating, evaluating, and reporting data for grant seekers and college development.
Marketing Provides research support in a variety of areas related to enrollment management, such as descriptive profiles of new and current students, target markets, image/brand development, competitor activity, cost comparisons and financial aid utilization, effectiveness of marketing communication and media activity.

Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor's Degree in Social Science, Statistics, or related field and experience as a research assistant or in a relevant field. Strong analytical and research skills. Strong written and oral communication and organizational skills. Working knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics. Experience using software packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Experience using databases.
Preferred: Master's degree in field with analytical and research background. Experience conducting surveys and preparing statistical reports. Experience using SPSS or SAS. Knowledge of query languages and Ellucian Banner a plus. Knowledge and experience utilizing data warehousing. Experience conducting marketing research. Experience using Web authoring tools. Training experience. Intellectual curiosity, initiative and ability to multitask.

Additional Information:
Salary: $39,118-$44,011, commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus benefits.
Final candidates are subject to a pre-employment criminal background investigation.
