The instructional designer on the Learning & Development team is primarily focused on interpersonal skill and functional skill development. The successful candidate must be comfortable working at all levels of the organization from the front line in the store to senior corporate leaders. This role requires someone with diverse experience in learning design, project management, and the creative talent to truly do it all, including: partnering with the business to identify needs and define projects, effectively managing the entire design process, building creative and engaging learning materials, and delivering top quality programs enterprise-wide.

Responsibilities

Lead learning design projects through the design lifecycle from scoping, research and analysis, through design, development, and implementation; providing clear roles and responsibilities through all phases

Ensure learning programs align with business strategy, goals, and Nordstrom culture

Establish partnerships with facilitators, stakeholders, subject matter experts, and learners to gain insight, identify needs and design learner-centric solutions

Use learning design tools and templates to ensure consistency and timely progress on project milestones

Determine the appropriate learning delivery vehicle(s) to achieve the desired result, within the context of the overall project goals (ie: instructor-led, leader-led, on demand e-learning, webinar, etc.)

Design solutions that make the complex and ambiguous simple and visible

Develop materials that are creative, engaging, relevant and are appropriate to the course topic and delivery method

Implement solutions on time that produce strong results

Gather feedback and review both new and existing training programs, determine the need for improvement and work to implement change

Effectively prioritize and manage multiple overlapping projects

Work within project budget, resource and time parameters

Deliver exemplary internal customer service through strong professionalism and ownership of assigned learning projects

Demonstrate commitment to teamwork through relationship building and effective collaboration

Facilitate the delivery of learning programs as appropriate

Qualifications

5+ years instructional design and delivery experience

Demonstrated experience designing learning for including classroom, on-demand elearning, and facilitated virtual environments

Ability to develop creative, engaging, relevant curriculum and course materials for a diverse audience of adult learners

Strong proficiency working on the Mac OS in Captivate, Articulate, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and MS Office required

Knowledge of Flash, Audition and Premiere a plus

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong sense of ownership while effectively collaborating with stakeholders

Enjoys working on diverse projects in a fast-paced, dynamic, evolving environment

Strong understanding how adults learn and what makes learning engaging, fun, and effective

Bachelor's degree (in related field, preferred)

Retail experience a plus
