  • SUMMARY: Teaches pre-and post-natal classes and conducts expectant parent tours. Requires initiative, independent action and the ability to relate well with clients in a group setting. Offers understanding, assistance and reassurance to clients. Remains flexible in meeting the program needs for class presentations, both on- site and at other designated sites. Participates in tours offered to clients within the classes or expectant parents interested in delivering at St. Agnes.

    Carries out responsibilities in accordance with Ascension Health Core Values, St. Agnes policies/procedures and applicable civil laws. Is accountable for efficient use of resources and support of the St. Agnes mission.

    Essential Functions:

    Teaches the following classes to groups of clients at St. Agnes Hospital and community-based locations; including but not limited to Lamaze/Preparation for Childbirth (5 week series or 1 ½ day week-end option), Childbirth refresher, Infant Care, Breastfeeding, Sibling Preparation and Grandparent Preparation.

    Provide tours of the Birthing Center as well as tours of the other maternal child patient care units.

    Submit necessary paper work in a timely manner, including class evaluations

    Demonstrates a through knowledge of class topic content. Presents information clearly with tact and sensitivity, at a level appropriate to clients.

    Attend in-services and staff meetings. Participates actively in programmatic tasks, such as updating materials, reviewing class syllabi, reviewing course offerings and implementing changes as determined by the instructor group and WHEC management.

    Participates in hospital and community-based outreach events to allow for program growth and maximizes options to meet the needs of expectant parents.

    Ensure that continuing education requirements are met to maintain all required and desired certifications.

    Required Education: Graduate of an accredited registered nurse program.

    Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Health Education

    Required License, Certification and/or Registration (by Law/Regulation/Hospital):

    Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Maryland

    CPR and ICEA, LAMAZE or Certified Childbirth Educator.

    Required Experience: At least one year within the Women’s and Children’s Division and credentials from a childbirth education program; Group or classroom teaching experience

    Preferred Experience: Experience with laboring and delivering mothers strongly desired
