The Department of Chemistry invites applications for two full-time, 1.00 FTE, 12-month, fixed term Instructor positions. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Chair.
The appointee to this position administers and teaches general Chemistry classes.
The primary mission of the OSU Department of Chemistry is to provide a program of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral education in chemistry and to conduct research and scholarly activities focused on areas of chemistry important to biology, materials and the environment. Approximately 2000 students are enrolled in the General Chemistry program each year.
The College of Science provides a core instructional role at OSU, supporting the ideals of learning, discovery, and engagement that are the foundation of a land-grant university. The College embraces instruction and research, in disciplines ranging from the physical to the biological sciences, that are based in unbiased inquiry and a dedication to discovery and innovation. The College of Science is committed to partnering with industry and public agencies to address some of the most compelling challenges of today and tomorrow.
Teach courses and contribute to the course development in general chemistry programs.
Present lectures and other course materials to students, administers and grades student assignments, and maintains student records. Communicates with students outside of class about course material and answers questions regarding the course and assigns final grades.
Assigns work to graduate teaching assistants in conjunction with specific courses being taught.
Successful applicants would be expected to participate in and the implementation of assessment best practices - including providing assessment data and participating in the Departmental assessment process.
10% Service to department, college or university
Serves on departmental and other committees as assigned in consultation with the Department Chair. Service to chemical profession is also encouraged.

Working Conditions/Work Schedule:
Master's degree in Chemistry or an allied field.
Documented skills in course development and writing course development proposals.
Ability to communicate effectively with students in person or electronically.
PhD in Chemistry or an allied field or Doctorate in Science Education.
Experience teaching chemistry.
Ability to teach both in a classroom setting and online courses.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
