The Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a collateral Research Instructor position to conduct research on the structure and function of Adeno-Associated Virus 2 Rep68 protein.

Qualifications: This will require the planning, development, and implementation of original experimental procedures involving expression of recombinant proteins in E. coli, x-ray diffraction studies, purification using the AKTA FPLC, and single-particle reconstruction using electron microscopy. Experience in the use and data analysis of an analytical ultracentrifuge is essential to this position. In addition, experience in enzyme kinetics using fluorescence spectroscopy is required to study the mechanism of DNA unwinding. The position requires experience in data collection in all of these techniques, analysis of data, and design of experiments. Knowledge of AAV-2 Rep68 biochemistry is essential. The candidate must have a PhD in physiology, biology, or a closely related field, with at least three years of relevant post doctoral training. Also required are strong letters of reference. The candidate should have a strong publication record in peer reviewed journals in the areas of the aforementioned techniques. The candidate should have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
